It is time once again for librarians, publishers, and the rest of the library and scholarly publishing universe to gather at the Charleston Conference in South Carolina to discuss emerging trends and innovations in scholarly publishing, library services, and research. The Charleston Conference is a favorite of us here at Cabells due to its collaborative and informal atmosphere and the platform it provides for exploring new ideas, fostering connections, and addressing key challenges facing libraries and the academic community as a whole.

We’re excited to return to Charleston after missing last year’s meeting; we last attended in 2022 to take part in a panel to present, “Sustainability, Open Science, and Scholarly Communications,” a session that examined how the scientific community, publishers, and librarians can drive change and wider societal outreach through open science policies and by embracing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals as a key topic in research impact, mission, and practice. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to discuss our work in stressing the importance of supporting education and action plans around the SDGs and other sustainability-focused science.

This year, we are happy to get back in the action of the Vendor Showcase taking place in the Exhibit Hall of the beautiful Charleston Gaillard Center. If you will be in Charleston next week, be sure to stop by our booth (#143) to meet the newest member of our sales team, Bryan. Bryan will be in town for the duration of the conference (including the lively reception at the amazing South Carolina Aquarium) and is looking forward to engaging with the community and enjoying the insightful discussions and networking opportunities the Charleston gathering uniquely provides.

Since our last time at the Charleston Conference we have been busy refining our tools to support researchers, publishers, and librarians in maintaining high standards in academic publishing. We are excited to present recent updates to our Journalytics and Predatory Reports platforms and to highlight new features that make it easier for users to assess journal quality, integrity, and suitability.

Returning to Charleston is more than just a chance to catch up; it’s an opportunity for Cabells to reinforce our commitment to supporting ethical publishing and scholarly communication and to learn about the latest needs and challenges faced by libraries and research institutions. The collaborative environment of the Charleston Conference aligns perfectly with our mission to promote transparency and trust in academic publishing and we’re looking forward to sharing our progress and gathering insights to guide future development. We hope to see you next week!
